Pressing flowers: a beginner’s guide

You don’t need a flower press or any special equipment to start pressing flowers. Heavy books, blotting paper, a bit of patience, and an eye for which blooms dry flat — that’s genuinely all it takes.
Choose flat flowers or petals — pansies, violets, and cosmos press beautifully. Avoid thick fleshy blooms like roses (though individual petals work well). Place between sheets of blotting or newspaper, press inside a heavy book, and leave for at least two weeks. The result is something you can frame, card-make with, or just keep.
